Red is a colour I never go for. I don’t have a clue why, but I’m always undecided as to whether it suits me. Although I’m a brunette, I have blonde highlights and I don’t think these sit well on red, so I never try the colour on. When I browse in the shops I always subconsciously avoid it. The only thing I own that is red, besides from what I’m about to show you, is a red bobble hat.
I’ve recently come round to the idea of wearing more red since I bought a mailbox red knit jumper from Primark, ready for autumn/winter. It was my Mum’s suggestion; I would never of picked it out otherwise, so thanks Mum! My wardrobe isn’t bland, but this injects even more colour into my rail and I’m loving it. It’s a fine knit style, with a chunkier neckline, exactly what I look for in a winter sweater.
OTHER WAYS TO STYLE RED THIS SEASON
THE RED PUFFER COAT
I’ve been lying to you all, I actually own another item that is red and that is my Hollister puffer coat! I only forgot about it as it isn’t at uni with me. I love a good winter warmer and red is the perfect stand out colour on those bleaker days. The cropped puffer is becoming a popular choice, but oversized puffers are always a win win for me, so there is room for layering.
Wearing modern, funky and athletic clothing has been a trend for a while now. Crimson red continually pops up on tees, joggers and trainers; it is quite the sporty chic colour that can make an outfit look casual, yet vibrant. This kind of style is functional, but fashionable and can be altered to suit any occasion these days. Praying for a lazy dress-down day, but need to look sharp? This look has your back. I just love the Gucci striped button-down sweatpants (below) and I’ve seen high-street versions of these at Missy Empire.
All things denim become staples in autumn and winter. A cute denim jacket, a denim mini skirt, even just a pair of mom jeans. However, to go a bit more bold this season you could try choosing red for your next denim piece. Contrast threading is popular style at the moment, especially on denim jackets; It can make heavy denim appear instantly lighter. I just love the coord worn by Lissy Roddy (below centre) in vermillion red.
