A few weeks ago, I took some friends to The Botanist in West Bridgford, Nottingham to try some of their delicious cocktails. Yes, students drinking cocktails at 2pm on a Tuesday is a thing! As we’re Journalism students, we went to write up an article following The Botanist’s opening on the 9th of October.
It’s the chain’s 15th branch, adding to their collection of secret garden-esque gastro-pubs up and down the country. I’ve also visited the Newcastle and Manchester locations, which are as equally amazing, but have their own unique style – the Geordie one even has a roof top bar! I love the rustic and homely vibe that the restaurant radiates as soon as you step through the door.
3 GIN-BASED COCKTAILS YOU NEED TO TRY AT THE BOTANIST:
1. VELVET GREEN – This is described as ‘nature’s nurturing cocktail’; it’s bitter sweet, with apple, kiwi and lemon juice being the main flavours! This is one of many gin-based cocktails which are The Botanist’s speciality.
2. BLUEBERRY AND PASSION FRUIT – A combo of blueberries, lemon juice and passion fruit syrup with Brockbmans blueberry-infused gin. They also add and hint of vanilla liqueur to make sure all your tastebuds are tingling. To our delight, this cocktail was a coral colour, perfectly insta-worthy.
3. BLACKBERRY AND ROSEMARY FIZZ – Last but not least is this sparkling gin concoction. You can find flavours blackberry and rosemary complemented by lemon and apple juice. Like Velvet Green, this cocktail uses Tanqueray gin. I love the touch of rosemary added as decoration which really fits with the horticultural theme.
What’s your favourite cocktail and what cocktail bars do you recommend?
